Description
This series for babes in arms and their caregivers is full of songs and rhymes  clapping hands and smiling faces. At the end of each program  there will be a playtime when parents and caregivers share books  puzzles or other early literacy activities with their toddlers. Our goal is to help parents and caregivers introduce their young infants to the world of books, songs, music  bounces, and rhymes.

The Keene Public Library hosts a monthly free family dance for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Family Dances started at the Keene Public Library in the summer of 2003. Now the dances are held the first Friday of each month from November through May. Over the years, the series has become an important library program that helps to develop early literacy skills and is fun too. Folk dancing helps to encourage the basic concepts of rhythm, repetition, sequencing, patterning, predictability, anticipation, musical cues, auditory discrimination, and counting. These are all important early learning skills. Traditional dance also is a great way to introduce children to the world's rich diversity, to teach the enjoyment of dance, music, and rhythm and to begin a livelong habit of the social enjoyment and physical activity of dancing.

All Family Dances are sponsored by the Friends of the Keene Public Library and the Trustees of the Keene Public Library Endowment Fund.

In support of Teen Tech Week, teens are invited to come in and make or use any of the non-print technology in the library. This includes the 3D printer which teens will be able to use and learn during this two hour workshop. If you've ever wondered how to create fun items with a 3D printer, here's your chance! There will also be a Whack-A-Mole game program that we'll put together as a group using the Makey Makey circuits and potatoes as the sensors you hit. Teens and kids will learn about using physical computing and circuits while having fun playing Whack-A-Mole!

Mathematicians and number lovers worldwide will come together on March 14th to celebrate National Pi Day, a celebration of the world's most popular mathematical constant. Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and while it goes on infinitely, we most often round it off to 3.14. However, today's event starts at 3/14/15 at 9:26 in honor of Pi or 3.1415926. National Pi Day also happens to be the birthday of physicist Albert Einstein so the day can't help but be fun for lovers of math and science. The goal of the Kids' Winter Reading Program is to visit the library three times and to read or listen to five books. Everyone that meets both goals will be entered into a drawing for digital tablet (KOBO ARC 10" TABLET, 10HD, 16GB) and fun toys such as a Makey Makey, Snap Circuits, and Play-Doh sets.
