The Keene Public Library is happy to have Robert Hunter from Toy City come to lead this workshop and act as Dungeon Master for interested kids, teens and adults who'd like to begin playing Dungeons & Dragons. In this beginner session he'll show players how to create a character (or incorporate your existing character from previous versions of the game) for either version 5 of Dungeons & Dragons or the offshoot Pathfinder, whichever players are more interested in. There will be some short action involved so players will get a chance to test out their characters before the session is over and then Robert will develop a campaign for everyone by the next meeting. So come and have fun and enjoy playing Dungeons & Dragons!

Come join our celebraton of African American History.through stories and songs with costumes and instruments and storyteller Mary Jo Maichack. Features "The People Could Fly," an empowering tale of slaves who find wings; "Little Daughter," who sings her way out of the wolf's woods; "The Talkin' Cooter," riddle tale of freedom told with fiddling turtle (MJ fiddles); "Mm, Mm, Mm, Martin Luther King," catchy story poem of the man's life by C. Blake-Alston. Children act out "Rabbit & Elephant" (wit, music & cooperation turn a bully into a friend) in colorful masks, African cloth and African shakers & mbira (thumb piano). Learn & sing spirituals and the whole audiences dances a Gullah folk dance. Takes listeners from the struggle to the soaring spirit. Even wise old 6th graders have cheered in response. Maichack's upbringing during the civil rights era affected her deeply, and the stories resonate. A surprising mix of laughter with powerful images enables all ages to connect to her love of this genre.

Marek will show you how to draw a story as a comic in this hands-on two-part workshop series. We'll learn about real life Civil Rights heroes like Jonathan Daniels and put them in our own comic books. Daniels was a native of Keene, N.H. While a seminarian at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Ma., he responded to the pleas of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for clergy to become more actively involved in the Civil Rights movement and he traveled to Alabama to assist with voter registration efforts in the South.

Come have fun at the workshop, which is open to adults and children who are at least 8-years-old.

"Changing America: The Emancipation Proclamation, 1863 and the March on Washington, 1963" is presented by the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Museum of American History in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The exhibition is made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and is part of NEH's Bridging Cultures initiative, "Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle," which brings four outstanding films on the civil rights movement to communities across the United States (see http://createdequal.neh.gov). "Created Equal" encourages communities across the country to revisit and reflect on the long history of civil rights in America.

The Rocker tells the story of a failed drummer who is given a second chance at fame. Robert "Fish" Fishman is the extremely dedicated and astoundingly passionate drummer for the eighties hair band Vesuvius, who is living the rock n' roll dream until he is unceremoniously kicked out of the band. Twenty years after his rock star fantasies are destroyed, just when Fish has finally given up all hope, he hears that his nephew's high school rock band A.D.D. is looking for a new drummer. They reluctantly make him the newest member of the band, giving him a chance to reclaim the rock God throne he's always thought he deserved, and taking the young band along for the ride of their lives.

Tinker and explore in our a highly interactive hands-on monthly program. Workshops are designed to introduce young learners aged eight to thirteen to many creative processes and their real world applications. During each session, youth imagine, plan, explore, communicate, tinker and create.

This week it's time to roll out the fun with games kids make themselves, and then challenge their friends with a Maker Camp Carnival.

Through this process, youth develop presentation skills, learn to work as a team, and learn to problem solve. Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

? 3D Design & Printing
? Circuits and Electronics
? Web Design
? Minecraft
? Upcycling
? Animation
? Film Production
? A variety of other hands-on activities!

Different projects will be introduced each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the summer, June 23 - August 14. Please register for each session so we know how much materials to provide.

This series for babes in arms and their caregivers is full of songs and rhymes, clapping hands and smiling faces. At the end of each program, there will be a playtime when parents and caregivers share books, puzzles, or other early literacy activities with their toddlers. Our goal is to help parents and caregivers introduce their young infants to the world of books, songs, music, bounces, and rhymes.

Our summer storytimes series is a drop-in six-week series through July. There is no need to register. However, if you do register, you will receive a weekly email reminder.
